Side Effects of Reiki

There are times when the recipients experience some side effects of Reiki during a healing or attunement session. Therefore it is important the reiki practitioners assure their patients to not be alarmed if they encounter some “unusual” symptoms.

They need to explain that while the experiences during a Reiki session are generally profoundly positive, a few temporary side effects of Reiki may make the recipient feel strange and thus alarming.

Reiki can lead to more energy, better health, letting go of trauma, feelings of gratitude and joy, feeling younger, having a clearer imagination, communicating better, and sleeping better.

Extreme Side Effects of Reiki

Even though experiences during a Reiki session are usually profound, some temporary side effects of Reiki can make the recipient feel strange, which can be scary.

Now that you’re aware of the things Reiki can do for you, let’s talk about the short-term, “odd” adverse reactions to expect so you can feel at ease if and when they occur:

Energy Shifting in the Body

The energy in your body is usually quite static before a Reiki session. Reiki causes a sudden surge and shift of energy in your body; that would feel strange and foreign to you. But it’s completely normal and part of the process!

Sensations of tingling

Tingling is a common occurrence as a result of energy shifting. As the Reiki Master clears negative energy and toxins from your body, you may experience tingling or bubbling sensations. This is perfectly alright. It works great for everyone, even though some people get slightly concerned due to the novelty of the situation.

The more spiritual healing sessions you have, the more used to this feeling you will be. It will make it easier for you to relax and enjoy it.

Extreme Emotional Outbursts or Mood Swings

If we’ve been holding some negative feelings, their release during a Reiki session may cause mood swings because the body, mind, and spirit learn to adapt to an emotionally better state.

This is wonderful!

Emotional spikes and swings in feelings such as sadness, anger, guilt, and joy, as well as euphoria, are the feelings you can expect as you shift into a higher frequency.

Extreme Fatigue, Flu-like symptoms, or Lack of Energy

After a Reiki session, it is common to feel tired and drained for a short time.

Furthermore, as your body adjusts to the changes in energy, you may experience some short-term, flu-like symptoms. If these symptoms persist, you should see your doctor because you may have contracted a viral infection or flu.

Changes in Digestion

This may come as a surprise, but changes in digestion, such as more gas, burping, or increased urination, are possible after Reiki therapy. This happens because shifts in your mind and body has a significant short-term impact on the physical body, resulting in systemic changes as well, albeit in the short term. But keep in mind that any new changes to your diet could be the cause of your digestive problems.

Other momentary side effects of the energy shift include sneezing, excessive sweating, lightheadedness, disturbed sleep patterns, lucid dreams, or flashbacks to specific memories. Please don’t be concerned if you do encounter this brief occurrence!

While the side effects of Reiki are usually mild, they fade after some time.

Additionally, drinking plenty of water helps your body adapt to its new, healthier state.

If the side effects of Reiki are severe or last longer than 48 hours, they are probably not caused by Reiki healing, and you should see a doctor.
